THE LIVING SPIRAL / A FIELD GUIDE

A world you can
make your own.

Choose a screen or a supported VR browser. The content and your local garden remain the same.

Begin with a question

Open the Living Spiral and select a room. You can use every written activity before loading 3D. Select Load 3D to download the rendering library and bring the environment to life.

The default package loads pinned Three.js modules from jsDelivr. The dependency provider receives those asset requests, but your notebook text is not sent to it. A documented optional installation step can host these modules on your own domain.

On a screen

Drag the scene to orbit, scroll or pinch to zoom, and select a labeled object to inspect it. The scene itself also accepts arrow keys for orbiting and +/− for zoom when focused. Use the destination bar to move between the six rooms. Use the activity panel to write, choose a reading, change an exhibit, or save a turn.

Enter VR

Open the HTTPS website in a WebXR-capable headset browser. Load 3D, then select Enter VR when available. A capability check determines whether that browser can start an immersive VR session. This package implements WebXR entry and input; physical headset compatibility has not been verified in this build environment.

The experience uses a seated-first local reference space. A spatial control panel appears in front of you. Point with a supported controller or target-ray input and select a button. Destination buttons move between work areas. Right-controller horizontal stick input gives a 30-degree snap turn where an XR gamepad is available. You can also use the panel’s left/right turn buttons. Recenter with your headset’s normal recenter command.

Point at a floor location and select to reposition, or use the destination buttons. Squeeze a controller while pointing at a small idea token to move it; release to place it. These arrangements last for the session. Text and saved artifacts persist only when you explicitly save them.

Writing in VR

The Turn Studio’s spatial panel has five stages. Select Edit to open an in-scene keyboard. Enter letters, spaces, punctuation, and line breaks with the controller ray. Select Done to return to the stage. At Make/Test, use Next question to write the next turn, then Plant turn. Hardware/browser text-entry behavior varies; the standard worksheet remains the best option for long writing.

A garden you can keep

Save draft preserves the six worksheet fields in this browser. Plant turn adds an entry to the existing garden; subsequent planting within the same studio session updates that entry and retains up to ten earlier revisions. Restore is explicit and confirms replacement of unsaved work. The standard My Garden page offers full editing, revision history, export, and confirmed import.

Local storage belongs to a browser and origin. A laptop and headset do not automatically share data. Export a garden backup from My Garden and import it into the other browser. Browser clearing or a domain change can remove or separate the saved data. Use an exported backup to keep a portable copy.

Set your own pace

Settings let you pause sculpture motion, lower rendering quality, reset your view, and turn optional ambient audio on or off. Audio starts muted. Reduced-motion preferences are honored. No camera, microphone, sign-in, or live AI connection is required.

What is in this edition

Six individual spaces, spatial content selection, a guided writing studio, local garden integration, three adjustable mathematical exhibits, and WebXR session/input code. The Commons contains facilitator activities, not a multiplayer meeting service. The Spiral Guide offers authored prompts, not generated answers. Handheld-controller interaction is the primary implemented VR path; hand and natural input depend on standard target-ray events from the browser and have not been device-tested.
